Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program The Bedford Fire Department believes one of the most effective ways of preventing fires and medical emergencies is educating the youth of our town. This is primarily done by Firefighter Mark Sullivan, the department’s S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) Officer. Through the cooperation of the Bedford Public Schools and local pre-schools, the S.A.F.E. Officer teaches students how they can keep their family safe and what actions to take if there is an emergency in their home. They are shown some of the many hazards we all have in our homes, such as:
The children are taught that these all have uses in our homes, but if used improperly, can be dangerous.
