On November 3, 2003 at 7:30 P.M. The Bedford Board of Selectmen, The Bedford Fire Department and a representative from Congressman John Tierney’s office will publicly recognize representatives from Raytheon Systems and Millipore Corporation for their support of the Bedford Fire Department.

Recently Congressman John Tierney notified Chief Kevin MacCaffrie that the Bedford Fire Department has been awarded a $74,000 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The total budget for this grant is $82,209.00. The department will receive $73,989.00 from the federal government and we are required to provide a local 10% contribution. The department got creative with this contribution and formed an alliance with Raytheon and Millipore who each contributed $3000.00 towards the local contribution. This partnership allowed the department to reap the full benefit of this grant at a final cost to the department of $2,209.00.

This grant will focus on three primary areas; respiratory protection and fit testing, specialized rescue training and specialized rescue equipment. This translates into 64 hours of specialized rescue training per shift over the next 12 months.

The appreciation ceremony will take place from November 3, 2003 7:30 P.M. – 7:45 P.M. at the Bedford Town Hall, 10 Mudge Way in the Selectmen’s meeting room
