Community Appreciation Night

On October 25, 2004, the Bedford Fire Department hosted an appreciation night to thank businesses and organizations that have supported the “specialized rescue” training program conducted over the previous twelve months.  The fire department publicly recognized the following businesses and organizations for their support throughout the past year:

The need for a specialized rescue training program was identified in early 2003, after a wide ranging study of the current hazards the Bedford Fire Department encounters.  The study indicated a trend towards more complex rescue situations in the community.

The Bedford Fire Department partnership with Raytheon Systems and Millipore Corporation was awarded a training and equipment grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  With the support of community organizations and businesses, the program grew into 96 hours of comprehensive training and enhanced rescue capabilities.  The partnerships formed through this program provided financial, equipment, volunteer, and facility resources that contributed greatly to the success of the training program.

The experiences gained through these new community partnerships were remarkable, and permitted the department and organizations to foster mutual respect and appreciation for each other.
