Fire Prevention Week 2006

Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, 2006
Each year, the Bedford Fire Department holds an open house during Fire Prevention Week.  Everyone is invited for tours of the fire station, a close-up look at the fire trucks, and free pizza from Papa Gino's!

2006 Open House
Saturday, October 14, 2006
12:00pm - 3:00pm
Fire Headquarters, 55 The Great Road

This year's theme is "Watch What You Heat", a campaign targeting safety in the kitchen.

  • Between 1999-2002, there were 114,000 reported home fires associated with cooking equipment on average per year, resulting in an annual 290 deaths and 4,380 injuries.

  • Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires.

  • Three in 10 reported home fires start in the kitchen -- more than any other place in the home.

  • Two out of three reported home cooking fires start with the range or stove.
